(linking up with Sar and Syndal)
This weekend was another whirlwind of activity for me, but it was all good, fun things. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with myself whenever I have nothing planned... but that won't happen until after July, so I have a long time to contemplate what it will be like to be bored.
This weekend, I celebrated my lovely friend's birthday with a small party at a bar/nightclub/bowling venue in a nearby city.
I apologize for the graininess of this pic. It was taken a few cameras ago on a wedding vacation to the Berkshires.
The venue had been the suggestion of D's friend and it was quite an interesting place. My only big gripe with the place is that there was absolutely nowhere to get away from the booming beat of the nightclub. Being that it was a bunch of things rolled into one, I was hoping that the dining area would have been slightly away from the loudness, but alas, it was nearly impossible to have a good conversation. Other than that, though, it was a good time. I guess we're just not clubbing people. It's time to face facts... we're old.
This weekend, I spent the night at my friend's place and went to her church in the morning. Her church is much more traditional than mine, and it was interesting to note everything as the service progressed. I grew up on the "traditional" style of worship, so the concept of hymns and responsive readings isn't totally foreign to me. It was actually kind of nice to get back to that style for a bit... but I've realized that I don't think I'd be able to go there all the time. I thrive on the much more upbeat worship. People tend to think that "contemporary" services are nothing but praise chorus' that have no substance, but I disagree. Just because something has a modern beat to it and encourages some movement does not mean that it is vacuous. A few of the songs we sang at my friend's church today, we have also sang at my more contemporary church, just with slightly different beats. Anyway, I digress. It was just cool to go back to my roots a little and see how my worship style has changed over the years. I went from extremely traditional Catholic services, to a slightly more relaxed, but still structured Methodist church, and now I attend a fully contemporary, still structured but open to change Missionary Alliance church. Oh, how we can change.
Oh, and in between all that, this weekend, my mom and I (mostly my mom since I've been so busy), were busy painting my basement. What a difference a little paint can make.
It's hard to believe that the room ever looked like the photo on the left. It never did have the ceiling tiles out of the top when I had it...so I guess they fixed that before I moved in. It looks so nice now!
So, a full weekend for me once again. I'm going to be exhausted by the end of this week. We're starting 4 day a week rehearsals for "Godspell", so I might as well just figure on not having any free time all week. At least I get to spend Valentine's Day at rehearsal instead of eating my weight in chocolate and drinking myself into a stupor. Rehearsal is probably a better use of my time.

What a fun weekend! And your basement looks great!
